Healthy Meals Delivered with NDIS
Can I have meals in my NDIS plan?
Well it is definitely quite possible!
A lot of participants of the scheme often ask us “Can I have meals delivered in my NDIS plan?” We understand there is a lot of information to digest (pardon the pun) and for many Aussies, this will be the first time they have ever received this sort of assistance.
Most participants are not aware they can receive our healthy meals to their door as a part of their plan! (If it is deemed, reasonable and necessary – see here for more info).
Top Tips on Getting Meal Delivery in your NDIS Plan
If your goals include one (or all) of the below:
- Increased independence
- Staying in your own home
- Health and wellbeing
- Assistance with daily activities
Then Meal Preparation and Delivery on your NDIS Plan could be just the thing to help you achieve them.
Here are the Top 5 Ways Meals Preparation and Delivery Can Help You Achieve Your Goals
- Choice & Control
When meals are delivered fresh to your home, you have complete choice and control over what you eat, and when. No more waiting for your support person to arrive and prepare each meal for you, you can now head straight to the fridge when you’re hungry, and grab what you want to eat.
2. Convenience
With a weekly delivery to your door, you never need to be worried about what to do when the fridge is empty again! Hungry now? Grab your meal from the fridge, re-heat for two minutes in the microwave, and eat up.
3. Promotes independent living
One of the most common NDIS goals is independent living – but a person’s gotta eat right?! With a fridge full of meals, you can expect to experience less involvement from your support person than you might have previously – perhaps it even means you get to stay in your own home!
4. Nutrition matters
Every person, regardless of their situation, needs to prioritise their health. Having regular meals that are free from processed crap, preservatives, and added sugars is super important to overall health and well-being. If you are considering a meal delivery service, it’s super important to ensure it’s not only tasty, but super healthy as well.
5. Don’t Settle
Food should bring joy…but hey, not everyone is a master chef! Luckily for you, when you get meals delivered on your NDIS plan, you have a team of chefs creating each and every one of your meals – obsessing over nutrition, taste, texture, and overall flavour. Having a disability does not mean you have to settle for second rate.
Am I eligible?
On 1st July NDIS released their new price guide which states:
Preparation and delivery of meals (01_022_0120_1_1)
This support item is for assistance with the cost of the preparation and delivery of food to participants who are unable to do this for themselves, and are not in receipt of other supports that would meet the same need. The cost of the food itself is not covered by the NDIS. It can be delivered to individual participants subject to the rules set out in this Price Guide. This support item is subject to quotation. It should only be used if it is a stated item in a plan.
In short, prior to 1st July 2020 participants were able to access “Flexible” core funding for Meal Preparation and Delivery and after 1st July we are required to send a quote to NDIS for approval.
Note: all plans in place prior to 1 July are not affected, and participants can continue (or start) accessing meal delivery through their flexible Core Supports.
A stated line item is required only for plans commencing on or after 1 July.
There are two ways you can be eligible for NDIS Meal Delivery in your plan:
- As a Stated Line Item in your plan, after 1 July 2020: If you have Preparation and delivery of meals (01_022_0120_1_1) as a stated line item in your plan then yes, you can have meals delivered. A quote is provided (our team can help you out there) to your planner to approve before service can commence.
- If your plan started prior to 1 July 2020.
Not sure if your plan is either of these? Reach out on 07 3051 0430 and we can talk through it with you!
