Do you find it difficult to stay focused on what’s happening in the present?
Stress has become a modern malady, caused by the chase to be successful in everything we do. Together with worrying about the past (events, decisions, a throw away comment your friend made last week) and the future (money, babies, property, the list is long). There doesn’t seem to be any reprieve from all that which cause stress!
As a female in the world we live in today, it is easy to feel as if we are losing control with the many pressures of our day to day life. Yet we have the knowledge that stress impacts our health in a variety of ways - from constant headaches to fluctuating weight, and even being susceptible to more serious illnesses and diseases. So how do we regain that control over life and still attain the goals we’ve set for ourselves? There are two key ways to really help you through this period in your life:
The first is MEDITATION: Your mind knows how to meditate, you just need to listen. Set aside a few minutes in your day to shut off from the world – switch off your cell phone and TV – and find a quiet place to sit or lie. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Let your mind drift to pleasant events, and when you realise it has wandered bring your awareness and focus back on your breath. Do this every day and you will reap the benefits.
The second is LIVING IN THE “NOW”: Basically, it means to be fully aware of what and how you do things, and start doing things deliberately and consciously. When you make a cup of tea, concentrate on only that – pouring the water, stirring, putting in the sugar one spoon at a time, watch the crystals sparkle. Give specific focus to your every action. Once you pay more attention to your actions, you will notice an improvement in reaching your goals because your mind can concentrate fully on the task at hand – you no longer burden your brain with “multi-tasking”.
The benefits of daily meditation and conscious living will prevent stress and you will start living a healthier, happier and more fulfilled life while still reaching the goals you set for yourself.
