Meet Gail - This is her story

Meet Gail...

Gail is a loving mother of 3 beautiful children. She is a registered nurse, and also happens to have Huntington's disease. She has always enjoyed an active life, and her health in general has always been an important part of her life. Gail retired nearly 3 years ago and has now transitioned into a different stage of her life.

How has meal delivery, as a part of the NDIS program changed your life?

As I have gotten a little older and a little sicker due to the nature of my disease I am less able to prepare food for myself. I've always enjoyed cooking and preparing food and find the whole process quite therapeutic. Initially I was quite distraught when I was no longer able to perform in the kitchen in a way that i used to. Now, knowing that I can still prepare and enjoy good quality food in my own home gives me peace of mind.

By having meal prep and delivery as a part of your NDIS program, how has it helped you move closer to achieving your goals?

A main goal as part of my NDIS program was the maintenance of my independence. It is extremely important to me that I do not become burdensome on those around me. By having reliable access to quality foods I know that I am going to be well provided for and that I don't have to rely on my family to look after me as much. Now I am fortunate enough to be able to participate in my adult children's' lives as well as maximizing my own time.

Are you a fan of the fact Nourish'd is fresh and not frozen?

Absolutely! Having lived a very active life, I always try and repay my body by eating wholesome foods.

Have you ever used a meal delivery service before?

This is our first experience with a meal delivery service (just quietly it has been rather excellent so far).

Jamie's perspective

Jamie is Gails son and he helps her with her Nourish'd meal orders. Jamie tells us his perspective on Nourish'd meals for Gail as a part of the NDIS program...Mums disease is progressive. The harsh reality is that she isn't going to get better and slowly it will consume her. For my siblings and I a major focus has become making the most of the time that we have left with her. Everyone needs to eat, and eat well. So it is important that when we have good days where mum feels able to get up and out, the last thing any of us want to do is to have to lurk around the house preparing food. Time is of the essence. Having an option available that is not only convenient but also high quality has made a world of difference when it comes to increasing the flexibility of our planning. It might not sound like much, but having to freedom to wake up in the morning and not needing to have the day planned out to the minute so that we can go out and still have time for dinner is massive.
