Nutrition in ready made meals: How important is it?

Ready made meals and nutrition should go hand in hand. You’d think all ready made meals marketed as healthy would have their macro and micronutrients sorted. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. Did you know many ready made meals contain preservatives, added refined sugar and processed carbohydrates that decrease their nutritional value? Ready made meals you find in the supermarket are the biggest culprit! As the summer holidays continue and life becomes busy again, it can be easy to reach for these meals in the supermarket without planning ahead and making time to order a more nutritious option.

Here at Nourish’d we have our nutrition down pat. With 100% preservative free, gluten free and refined sugar free ready made meals, it pays to order ahead this summer. Today, we will break down the added value of nutrition in our new summer menu, plus, get into the nitty gritty on how the adequate nutrients in our ready made meals can help you achieve your summer goals. Let's get started!

Vitamin B12 For Energy

Vitamin B12 is vital for energy - a key component necessary for enjoying an active summer lifestyle. It plays an essential role in the production of red blood cells, metabolism and nerve function so it’s a pretty important micronutrient that should be included in a healthy diet. If you are having trouble with fatigue it may be a case of vitamin B12 deficiency. Eggs, chicken and beef all contain a high amount of B12. We have included a range of these ingredients in our ready made meals for the Nourish’d summer menu which include Moroccan Baked Eggs, Chicken Caesar Salad and Meatball Marinara.

If you follow a vegetarian diet your consumption and absorption of B12 could be low. Please seek advice from your medical professional about vitamin B12 consumption and what your options are.

Vitamin A and E for Skin Health

Keeping your skin healthy is not only good for that summer glow, it can also help to repair and heal skin that has been sun damaged (a problem most Australians know all too well!). This is where vitamin A  and vitamin E come in. Vitamin A contains beta carotene which may enrich the skin and prevent UV damage. Therefore, an essential vitamin when continually being in the summer sun and can be found in many vegetables, herbs and spices. Our Loaded Sweet Potato and Nem Nuong Pork ready made meals contain a large amount of vitamin A due to the increased use of vegetables and herbs in these dishes.

Vitamin E is present in many healthy fats including ghee, eggs and olive oil. It is important for skin health as it contains anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties that can help with oily skin in the summer heat. Think treating those irritating sweat pimples from the inside out! Our ready made meals of Butter Chicken (with Cauliflower or Basmati Rice) and Chicken & Bacon Carbonara contain a large amount of fat macronutrients that may increase your vitamin E intake, thus improving skin health.

Zinc and Magnesium for Immunity

To keep your lifestyle active this summer it is important to consider your immunity, especially when dealing with the unfortunate effects of the coronavirus. Nourish’d ready made meals include zinc and magnesium through a range of ingredients like grass-fed, free range meat, garlic, chilli, sweet potato, basmati rice and spinach. Magnesium and zinc are both important for supporting your immune system as both micronutrients support cell growth and repair. It is also recommended by some doctors that magnesium and zinc are consumed together as they compliment each other in helping your body thrive. To increase your intake of these immune boosting micronutrients try our Nem Nuong Pork, Chicken Caesar Salad and Loaded Sweet Potato ready made meals.

Manganese for Metabolism

Having a great metabolism can do wonders for your mood and body function in summer. To allow your metabolism to function properly a variety of macro and micronutrients are needed. One of these is manganese. Manganese is anti-inflammatory and plays a key role in fat and carbohydrate metabolism, two of the biggest macro nutrients consumed. This means that including manganese in your diet could improve your energy through metabolism. It will also aid in breaking down the food and drinks consumed in the social summer scene - what a win! Manganese is present in garlic, chickpeas, herbs and onions. Chicken Caesar Salad and Moroccan Baked Eggs ready made meals include a range of these ingredients to help with metabolism to keep that energy up for summer.
