HOW TO DITCH DAD BOD WITH LEE CARSELDINE
You know it, I know it, we all know it…. Dad bod is a real thing! But it doesn’t have to be.
We chatted with Lee Carseldine about how you can prevent dad bod and stay on track.
A bit about Lee ( in case you didn’t know)…
Lee Carseldine’s life has been non-stop since retiring from professional cricket. He inspires people on a daily basis via his Instagram page. You may also remember him from Australia’s biggest reality TV show Survivor, not to mention his adventures, treks and fitness combos with Travelee
Q & A With Lee
Ok Lee. Tell us what would be the best tip to give a time poor dad to assist with a healthier lifestyle?( small hacks that make a difference)
This advice is going to be pretty harsh but if you are using the old “time poor” excuse then you are off to a bad start as you will use this as a default whenever something gets in the way of exercising.
So my first advice is you have to allocate time and lock it in your diary…just you would an important meeting that would benefit your work. Once this is done you open time to exercise. You will be surprised to see increase in workouts if you have it in your diary and protect that time for yourself.
Do Dads need to change their drinking habits to lose weight?
Absolutely. I still love a beer but I work on a rewards system. I don’t drink during the week and limit myself to 6 pack over the weekend. Even though its more expensive, I literally buy a six pack and not a carton as this removes any temptations of cracking open another beer after I have finished my allocated 6 drinks. It makes me cherish these 6 drinks and they do taste better!!
Should their focus be on strength or cardio?
Both however with a greater emphasis on strength. With each passing year for us old blokes it is important that we keep up our strength program as from each decade from the age of 30 we lose 3 to 5 per cent of the muscle mass we naturally carry.
What about the sleep deprived new dad? Everyone says sleep is important to lose weight but what if they are not getting it?
I can’t stress enough how important sleep is. We all know how important sleep is to your mental and physical health – I must insist that you listen to a podcast Joe Rogan did with Matthew Walker who is a Professor of Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of California. The information he presents will blow your mind and totally change your priorities with regards your sleeping patterns.
Do you have any dad bod prevention tips for men about to become dads?
There are a few but here are my main ones:
- Put your body under physical stress at least 3 times per week. A simple walk or being outdoors doesn’t constitute as extreme
- Keep you food meals simple. The more sauces and extra you add into your meals all the hard work you are doing to make it a healthy meal comes undone
- Cut out your sugar. Stop drinking all soft drinks and juices (fresh is ok) and replace with water. Also reduce biscuits and snack intakes and replace them with fruit, nuts .
- Sleep 8 hours a day
Any tips or hacks for dads and their health in general?
It’s all about balance. Staying disciplined and being consistent.
Well there you have it guys! You can rid yourself of Dad Bod!
